Music Director's Farewell

Dear Friends,

I believe that God opens and closes doors. Sometimes the door shut with a resounding bang and the door that opens - opens like a whirlwind. Andy and I have been struggling this past year with the question of housing and schools for Duncan, Emma and Sara. The first door closed when it was impossible to make the proceeds of selling our house and a new mortgage be sufficient to buy into a significantly better school district.

"Okay," we thought. "We'll stay put, put Duncan into private school and get a home equity loan to improve the 'kitchen'. We had everything in place - and ten Andy was laid-off. The second door slammed shut with a big bang.

About that time we received mail from Iowa's SmartCareerMove.com. Since I have many relatives in Iowa, we began exploring Iowa as a place where the needs of our family might more easily be met. Iowa schools are rated very highly and the cost of living is significantly cheaper than it is in Massachusetts.

We began readying ourselves to put the house on the market. We anticipated, with the sluggish economy, that we'd endure months of being in the real estate market. The door opened like a whirlwind, God yanked us through. An hour before we formally listed the house with a real estate broker, a potential buyer looked at the house. Within 8 hours, an offer was made.

The transaction is progressing and we will close on our house on June 17th - at which point we will drive to Iowa. We expect to live in the greater Des Moines, near one of my brothers. Therefore, my last Sunday as your Music Director will be June 15.

Leaving Burlington Presbyterian Church is going to be difficult. I have been blessed to serve you as Music Director. I have greatly enjoyed working with the choir and soloists, bringing God's word to you through music. It has been an honor to work with Rod planning worship services together. I know that I have learned and grown greatly during my time her eat Burlington Presbyterian. Thank you very much for everything.

In Christ,

Candace Goff
