Curtain to Rise on the "Eastward Players"

Thursday, February 20
Second annual performance in the Boston area

This talented group of youth and their advisors are from the churches of the Mission At The Eastward (MATE) - the same cooperative church effort that conducts the housing ministry to which we send a team of volunteers each summer. The Eastward Players cast and crew have been performing Christian drama since 1996 and have produced seven full length musicals, one full length play, three skits, and countless choral presentations. The Players have traveled to many different churches in Maine and different sites in New York, Ohio, West Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. For the youth involved in the Eastward Players, who dedicate countless hours of their time to this program, their work is focused on witnessing. In fact, the motto of Eastward Players is "Witnessing to the World." The Players vision is to spread Christ's messages to the world in an enjoyable and fulfilling manner.

The Eastward Players will b eon their annual tour of MATE-supporting churches and will perform at the Needham Presbyterian Church on Thursday, February 20. This year, the players will present two one act comedies for the whole family to enjoy.

The Case of the Frozen Saints is about a low-rent private investigator, Sam Slade, who has been called to find the murderer of a church. Totally absurd, yet very pointed in its message, the play is a fun-filled "who-dunit" that presents the different kinds of attitudes that can kill a church.

Welcoming the New Minister is the story about a big city pastor who has been called to a small church in the country, and is hired sight unseen. Naturally, when the women get together they discuss the new pastor, who has not yet arrived. All the eccentricities of human nature have been made a part of the cast, and a surprise ending climaxes the genuine fun and entertainment.

A supper featuring a "taco bar" but with potluck contributions from the Partner Churches will begin at 6:30, with performance to follow. Our church's youth should especially enjoy this evening. Tickets will soon be available. Speak to Rod MacDonald (rod@burlingtonpres.org), or watch for further information at church.
