On Friday night, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. the Presbyterian Church in Burlington will be hosting an evening of Dances of Universal Peace. These are participatory circle dances using extremely simple folk movements (3 left feet are warmly welcomed and accommodated). All dances are taught and live music is provided. The dances are done while singing chants and mantras from many of the world's religions and spiritual traditions-Christian, Islamic, Judaic, Buddhist, Hindu, Native American-and others. They are moving meditations, body prayers, done in vibrant community with others. As such they can be both transforming and celebratory.
The dances are a joyous, multi-cultural way to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. They use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many traditions of the earth to promote peace and integration within individuals and groups.
All are invited to chase away those winter blues and warm up with an evening of song and dance. From the beginning of time sacred movement and music have brought people together-at times of seasonal ceremony and celebration, as part of everyday life and life passages, in daily renewal and times of need. The Dances of Universal Peace are part of this timeless tradition.
A $5 donation is asked to cover expenses. Click here for directions to the church.
