"Celebration of Culture and Faith" A Unique Opportunity

Sunday, October 3, 3:30 pm
St. Malachy's Church, Burlington
Where can we go to enjoy and learn of traditions and arts of Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Hindu communities, in our area -- in an afternoon of fun, fellowship, and refreshments? The answer is above! Th eBurlington Clergy group is putting together a program which is expected to include our own church Carillon Choir; a rock band from the Jewish temple; Indian music and folk dance; Muslim children's fashions; a clown skit; and a couple other choirs. It's to be followed by refreshments provided by each of the congregations involved!

The program is being carefully planned not to exceed 90 minutes. Father Lenny O'Malley of St. Malachy's will be host.

BPC's Kidz group is already planning to attend; we hope many others will want to, too! If you are interested, and if you would liek more information, or ot offer to provide som efinger foods or soda on behalf of our church, please contact Rod right away.

Peacemaking Offering

Join us on October 3, as we celebrate World Communion Sunday and receive the Peacemaking Offering. On this day we will join with Christians around the world to celebrate the unity that we find at the Table of the Lord. We receive the Peacemaking Offering to support the efforts of our congregation, our presbytery, our synod and our denomination to spread the peace of Christ. Remember that 25% of the offering will be used in the congregation fo our peacmaking activities. WE contriube at least $250 to the Burlington Peace Scholarship effort each year. The other 75% will help our partners in presbytery, synod and General Assembly in their efforts to make this a more peaceful world. I will grant peace in teh land, and you shall lie down, and no one shall make you afraid; I will remove dangerous animals from the land, adn no sowrd shall go through your land... And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people. Leviticus 26:6-12

Kidz Comings Kick-Off

Kidz Comings Kick-Off You asked for it! The Kidz Comings group for youth in grades 2-6 will kick off this school year with two activities that Kidz and their parents chose in a survey last spring. The first is learning about other faiths. After church on October 3, we'll gather for lunch and for games that help us learn about the Muslim, Hindu, and Jewish faiths. Then, we'll attend the community-wide Celebration of Culture and Faith at St. Malachy's Church. As part of our effort to combine service with fun, we'll prepare finger sandwiches to contribute to the reception after the celebration. Then on Friday, November 5, we'll gather at church for a fun evening of learning magic tricks. This mixing of some activities on Sunday afternoon with some on Friday nights is another outcome of last spring's survey. The survey also revealed that transportation to and from meetings is sometimes an issue. So this year, we will make every effort to arrange rides for Kidz who want to attend meetings, but don't have transportation. For more information, contact Judy Silver.

Prayer at the Close of Day

Second Wednesdays
Resumes October 20 at 7:30 PM

Because it was found to be a source of spiritual support by many, Session has decided to continue services of evening prayer on a once-a-month basis. The emphasis will again be on quiet reflection and prayer, with opportunity for individual prayers for healing and peace. Plenty of music will be included, in the same spirit. If you would like to be part of leading, or providing music for these services, please contact Brenda Flynn at webmaster@burlingtonpres.org. Do consider bringing a friend who might be searching for the peace that God can give.

Exploring Membership

Want to know more about our church?
An opportunity for an Explorers Group will soon be provided by the Session, Membership Committee and pastor. This will be for anyone interested in learning more about the Presbyeterian Church, how we seek to live the Christian faith, the commitments and opportunities we offer, and how to become a member. This short-term group (normally 3 weeks) is hosted by the Membership Committee and led by the pastor. Please let Mr. MacDonald know right away if you are interested - and watch Sunday announcements for more details.
