Summer Crossroads Notes:

From our monthly Newsletter

Summertime and the Livin' is Easy

Every summer, the Summertime Gershwin melody returns to mind, and one of the lines is I'm gonna rise up singing. Although that concept has several meanings, the Worship Committee hopes that there are folks reading this who have a song in their heart to be shared during the offertory period during the summer. You can sing, play, hum, or whistle your song. You can perform with other family members or friends. You can even ask friends to play or sing. The Sundays available are: July 17, August 14, August 21, August 28, September 4. Please contact Cathy Zeek or Millie Wiegand if you have thoughts on how to provide a joyful noise for the offertory portion of one of those services.

ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE

July 7, 2005
2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
In honor of Vickie Graham, the Deacons wish to encourage as many people as possible to donate blood. It is such a good cause. If you can't make it to the church or are away, we encourage you to donate at another site as there is always a great need.

FOOD PANTRY

The Burlington Community Food Pantry is currently serving 99 families a month, with 3 or 4 new families each week. The folks who do the shopping are buying for 300 people. BPC folks can help by replenishing the shelves with the following items which will be in short supply in July:

macaroni & cheese (regular or family size)
apple juice (condensed is o.k.)
jelly and preserves
cereal - Cheerios, something with fruit

Please leave donations in the box in the hall marked for PHP and I will see that it gets to the Pantry. Thanks!

Summer Music Therapy Group

This summer, if you happen to stop by the church on Thursday afternoons or Saturday mornings, you may hear some beautiful music being made. Andrew Gentzow, a music therapist who has worked through both the Burlington Recreation Department and LABB Special Needs classrooms, will be running music therapy at the church for the summer. He will have an enrollment of 5-8 kids with a variety of special needs and he integrates speech and language, fine motor and social pragmatics into the sessions. This parent and child class is fun for the kids (who don't even realize they are doing work and learning). For more information on music therapy, you can check out http://www.musictherapy.org. Many thanks to the Trustees and Mark Wells for allowing the church to host this class.

Summer Play Group

Parents, don't you just love to hear: What are we gonna do today, Mom (or Dad)? Well, if it's a Tuesday morning, you can stop by our church play area and see all your friends from church! Every Tuesday morning in July and August, beginning July 5th, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, all church families and friends will be welcome to stop by for an informal play group. Someone will be there to open the church for any restroom needs and if it rains, we'll move the play group inside. If you have any questions, contact Heather Dinsmore suaddict@yahoo.com.
