For the sixth spring, BPC is working with the other Cooperating congregations of Burlington (St. Malachy's Church, St. Margaret's Church, St. Mark's church, Temple Shalom Emeth and the United Church of Christ, Congregational) to provide Peace Scholarships to graduating high school seniors living or studying in Burlington. We will again be giving three $1000 awards to students who have promoted peace in school and/or community, either through such programs as the Peer Mediation or Multicultural programs at the high school, or in less organized ways. The Scholarship committee will be interviewing those students we have selected as finalists, from nominations received in March. The Peace Scholarship Program began in 1999 as one way our congregations have determined to recognize and promote violence prevention and peace-promoting measure for young people. This year, BPC has been able to participate through Session's authorizing $250 from our own Peacemaking funds (our share of our response to the annual denomination Peacemaking Offering, which is taken in October). Would you like to serve as a representative on the interviewing committee (involves two meetings)? Speak to Rod.

Because it was found to be a source of spiritual support by many during the last Lenten season, Session has decided to offer services of evening prayer on a once-a-month basis. The emphasis will again be on quiet reflection and prayer, with opportunity for individual prayers for healing and peace. Music will be included, in the same spirit.
Cookie Jockey Needed: On Friday, May 14, the Kidz comings Youth Group will be baking cookies for use when Cool Comings Youth serve supper at The Dwelling Place in June. After we've done the mixing and spooning onto cookie sheets, we need a volunteer to keep the cookies moving into and out of the oven while we go amuse ourselves. I'm afraid if I try to entertain the kidz and watch the cookies, too, one or the other will get burned! So if you can help us that night, please contact Judy Silver.
A Tingling Trip: The Kidz comings March trip to the Burlington Science Center was a tingling experience -- literally! Not only did we get tingles all over when we petted the boa constrictor, but we also go tingly hands when we petted the prickly hedgehog. Colin and Tony enjoyed chasing the ferret that could fold in half, Holly got to feed a guinea pig lettuce and cheerios, Dustin got to feed raisins to an African mammal, and we all got a kick out of the baby alligator with the bad attitude!
It's not too early to begin to think about our annual Yard Sale! Start setting aside your unwanted items for the Deacons fund raising yard sale this summer!

Are you interested in getting together with other folk from BPC to help raise needed funds for two good causes? Interested in getting more exercise this spring? Well, we have not one, but two possibilities for you! The first is the annual Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 2nd in boston, the second is the MS Walk in Concord on Sunday May 16 (old timers, please note the later date for this year).
The Walk for Hunger raises funds to support hunger programs -- 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks and food salvage programs in 124 communities throughout Massachusetts. Young and old are welcome to walk -- as few as 3.5 miles or as many as all 20. Each year we've gathered for a Blessing of the Feet in the early morning, then travel into Boston and start the wal |
