SPIRITUALITY & STEWARDSHIP

SEEING AND BEING JESUS
Conference: Friday-Saturday, March 19-20, in Worcester

This is a conference for everyone who cares about their giving of time, talent, and treasures in the service of God! It will be the third time this biennial event has been held, and the previous times drew very large crowds from around the northeast. There is a keynote speaker, Dr. Leonard Sweet of Drew University; inspiring worship; and many workshops (with themes like Grace & Gratitude and Stewardship as a Matter of Justice) to choose from. The Friday evening program (6:00-9:00) features a dinner and Dr. Sweet; Saturday (8:00-3:30) features worship and workshops. Either may be attended separately for $37.50, or both for $70. The Presbytery of Boston is strongly involved in this event.

See Rod MacDonald for registration information.

Prayer at the Close of Day

to be a Monthly Event
Second Wednesdays

7:30PM

Because it was found to be a source of spiritual support by many during the last Lenten season, Session has decided to offer services of evening prayer on a once-a-month basis. The emphasis will again be on quiet reflection and prayer, with opportunity for individual prayers for healing and peace. Music will be included, in the same spirit.

If you would like to be part of leading, or providing music for, these services, please contact Brenda Flynn, Joan Ross, or Rod MacDonald. Do consider bringing a friend who might be searching for the peace that God can give.

ASH WEDNESDAY-FOR THE START OF LENT

FEBRUARY 25, 7:30 pm

A service will take place in our sanctuary on Wednesday, February 25, in keeping with the traditional start of Lent. It marks the beginning of the 40-day period (not counting Sundays) leading up to Easter. It is historically the time when new Christians prepared for baptism, but has become a season for the whole church to emphasize self-examination, prayer, fasting, and increased "almsgiving," or service to others.

This service will seek to set a tone for this season. There will be scripture, a brief message, prayer, and in keeping with custom, ashes for those who wish to have them "imposed," or placed with a smudge on the forehead as a sign of our mortality and humility before God. The ashes are made from the burning of palm fronds from last year's Palm Sunday.

All are welcome to this beginning of the Lenten journey.
