The 40 days of Lent (not counting Sundays) begin on Ash Wednesday, March 5.
In keeping with recent tradition, the five partner Presbyterian churches will
gather for a simple Lenten meal followed by worship for the start of Lent.
This year, it is our privilege to serve as host for this event.
Supper is set for 6:30, but if you can't make it by then, come a little later
and join the table; or, plan to come just for worship at 8:00. As host
church, we'll be providing some hearty soup; Millie Wiegand is in charge
(see her if you'd like to help!). The other churches will each be
contributing, including hors d'oeurves, salad, bread and dessert. There's a
fine opportunity for fellowship with other Presbyterians.
Candie Goff will begin organ music in the sanctuary by 7:45, and we'll enter
quietly for worship. The service, in keeping with the church's
understandings of Lent, will be reflective and penitential in nature. There
will be ashes (made from the burning of last year's palms) for those who wish
to have them "imposed," or placed on their foreheads, as a symbol of
repentance. The word will be preached by the Rev. Steve Alspach, who is
serving as the interim minister at the Needham Presbyterian Church. We'll go
quietly forth into the night, and into the season ahead. Please plan to make
this evening part of your life this year. There will be child care available
for those who need it. For more information, speak to Rod MacDonald rod@burlingtonpres.org.
