Purpose
The purpose shall be to nurture faith, spiritual growth and a lifestyle of Christian service among church families and to coordinate and support the work of Christian Education volunteers.
Christian Education/Sunday School Responsibilities
- Work with the pastor & Christian Education Committee to develop goals, policies, programs and the Church School calendar.
- Collaborate with the Christian Education Committee to recruit and train leaders, teachers and substitutes.
- Oversee the Safe Child Program and training in conjunction with the Christian Education Committee and Session.
- Coordinate curriculum selection, order supplies and curriculum.
- Plan (& implement) special intergenerational programs, such as Advent or Lenten workshops.
- Coordinate with appropriate committees to give children opportunities to participate in worship and promote giving/tithing.
- Promote and advertise educational programs through Crossroads, weekly bulletins, and communication with parents.
- Attend monthly Christian Education Committee meetings
Family Ministry
- Develop resources which may be used to enhance faith growth at home through such things as intergenerational devotional materials, interactive content on the church's website, etc.
- Facilitate community and nurture among the church's families through such activities as social gatherings, family education programs, and an annual retreat, working with a team of family leaders.
Qualifications
- A candidate for this position must be a committed Christian with solid church background.
- This person must have excellent interpersonal skills, teaching skills, ability to recruit and train volunteers, be flexible, handle ambiguity.
- The person should be a self-starter, good listener, able to give and take direction.
- He or she must have demonstrated oral and written communication skills, be collaborative, adept at planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating programs.
- Previous experience in a church-based program a plus.
- Bachelor's level degree or higher required.
- A degree in education and/or religious training a plus, but not required.
- Hiring will be contingent upon meeting requirements of the Safe Child Program.
Other
- The position will be accountable to the Session and supervised by the pastor.
- The position will be for the entire calendar year with most programs occurring during the school year of September through June.
- Oversight of planned activities shall be provided by the Christian Education Committee.
- An annual performance review will include input from other staff, the congregation, the Christian Education Committee and the Personnel Committee.
- This position is not eligible for benefits.
